This superb little writing desk is attributed to the important furniture maker Joseph-Emmanuel Zwiener. The desk is designed in the Louis XV style and is crafted from gilt bronze mounted wood. The tabletop is richly inlaid with kingwood and citronnier, the marquetry design depicting an elaborate floral composition. The apron below is similarly adorned with marquetry, each marquetry panel contained within a floral gilt bronze frame. The shaped apron is supported by four cabriole legs, each leg terminating in a gilt bronze foot and affixed to the shoulder with an elaborate gilt bronze foliate mount.
