Object Description

Circa 1840, Louis XV style cast and gilded bronze (ormolu) mantel clock, signed by clockmaker Raingo, Paris. All cast in one piece, with foliate, vines and grape leaf designs, surrounding an enamel face and makers name of Raingo, Paris to the roman numeral VI. With 2 small winding holes (for the time piece and striking mechanism), and Rococo style scrolling over a raised platform base with elaborate cabriole legs. Standing on a carved wooden base, which follows the form and style of the clock, with stamp underneath of ‘1056 – A. Vigne’. The clock has been cleaned and serviced.

The firm of Raingo of Paris (or Raingo Frères) was established by French clockmaker, inventor and bronzier Zacharie Joseph Raingo, and were renowned for producing high quality clocks, some of which are in Royal collections and museums today, including an astronomical clock purchased by George IV in 1824 (now in the Royal Collection Trust).
