Object Description
Louis XVI style ormolu mounted malachite column mantel clock
French, Late 19th Century
Height 52cm, width 23cm, depth 20cm
With the circular dial set within a round drum case, this fine mantel clock, mounted on malachite columns is executed in Louis XVI style. The piece is surmounted on top by a pair of love-birds, with a sunburst pendulum hanging below. This oscillates between a column support arrangement, with six round Ionic columns, around which hangs a gilt-wreath, circling the mount. Pinecone finials, and friezes and bands of ormolu adorn the case. Made in France in the late 19th century, the original marble has been replaced with malachite.
