Object Description

A Louis XV / XVI Transitional tulipwood and amaranth gilt brass mounted marble topped commode of excellent colour. Circa 1770
The variegated rouge marble top with chamfered corners and moulded edge sits above one long and two short frieze drawers over two longer drawers, each retaining their original brass ring handles and central ornate escutcheons.

The drawers are pine fronted with beech sides and oak liners being butterfly veneered with tulipwood and inlaid with a chequered banding surrounded by amaranth. The commode still has its original key.

Raised on turned inlaid legs this antique commode has rounded gilt brass mounted corners with decorative bookmatch veneered sides and parquetry banding.

Offered in excellent condition having been restored using original techniques this delightful period commode has a beautiful faded colour with striking veneers.

A practical and attractive commode for almost any room of the home.
