Object Description

A finely cast Luristan bronze sword, featuring a smooth triangular blade with sharp edges and short terminals near the base of the sword. The weapon displays a narrow, partly flanged hilt with a crescentic pommel in which a wood, bone or limestone inlay would have originally been placed. Closer to the guard, the hilt is cast on, presumably to provide a better grip. Beautiful brown-green patination covers the surface.

Dimensions of the sword without the stand: L39.6cm x W4.5cm

Date: Circa 1800-600 BC

Object Condition

Very fine condition. The blade is intact and features very few chips. The handle and pommel display some chipping as well as a few perforations on the base of the handle. The surface of the sword is covered with an attractive patination.
