Object Description
A very fine, Campanian, red-figure terracotta oinochoe. The vessel features a rounded ovoid body resting on a low round foot, with a tall narrow neck that leads to a pinched-in trefoil mouth. A single thin handle rises from the shoulder to the rim. The body of the oinochoe is decorated with a red-figure presentation scene showing three women. The seated figure in the middle is holding a phiale, her hair bound in a soft hair net, sakkos, wearing a peplos with a long over-fold. She is flanked by two women tightly wrapped in himations. Large rhomboids with small crosses in the middle decorate the background. The scene breaks up in the back under the handle, where the area is decorated with a stunning palmette design. The shoulder of the vessel is enriched with a wave pattern. A sequence of vertical strokes encircle the neck.
