Object Description
This magnificent armorial George II cast silver basket was made in London in 17 by Edward Aldridge and measures 12.75 inches in length by 11.25 inches wide and stands 3.75 inches tall – 11.5 inches with handle raised. It has a weave design to the body and a pierced rope like design to the handle, there is a reeded border to the base of the basket leading into a vertically pierced band with a further reeded band below that, the top border of the basket is wavy and reeded in design with a large shell either side where the swing handle attaches and smaller shells between them it has a large coat of arms to the centre and is fully and clearly hallmarked underneath and to one side near the handle is the makers mark and to the opposite side there is a lion passant. A superb piece of Georgian craftsmanship in excellent condition weighing 37.55 ounces or 1168 grams.
