Object Description
A Very Good Quality 19th Century Victorian Mahogany Open Bookcase, Having Well Figured Top With Original Wooden Gallery, Over Panelled Frieze And Sides With Superb Carved Decoration, Enclosing Three Adjustable Shelves, Raised On Original Plinth Base.
A lovely open bookcase which dates to the late 19th century victorian period and is very elegant, whilst also being being very good quality and very functional.
The size is exceptional, much larger than often found, whilst at the same time being not being overpoweringly huge which means it can have presence in a room without dominating.
Overall the quality of the timbers used and construction is excellent and it boasts superbly carved decoration. There is a huge variation in the overall quality and look of open bookcases which were made in the mid-late 19th century and this is certainly at the higher end of the quality bracket.
Perfect for a downstairs hallway, office, study, dining room, living room, bedroom or even on a landing, it can be used for it’s original purpose of the storage of books, or even for displaying items which one would like on view around the house.
As with all items which we offer for sale it has been attended to in our workshops by our well trained, traditional specialist antique furniture restorers, where it has received a natural wax polish ensuring that it is ready for immediate placement in the home or office.
