A mahogany Camp Table.
The table has a pair of small lugs to locate the top to the frame, which is an unusual feature. The top of the X Frame legs, by the hinged top, have shaped wooden brackets to the corners to strengthen the joints in support of the top. The
The table is similar in design to those described by Loudon as being perfect for officers or as an extra table for parties except it is only made to fold and not extend. Those described by Loudon had an extra screw in leg and a butlers tray to double the length. A close examination of this table shows that it never had a brass fitting to take a screw in leg and so extend. The table is also a little more lightweight than those made to extend.
It’s certainly as useful today as when first made for an army officer. It serves well as an extra table to take into the garden or set up for drinks at a party. Early 19th Century.
