Object Description
Circa 1910. An exhibition quality mahogany desk side table by ‘Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh’. The top with its raised shaped fore-edge, the centre with quarter matched flame mahogany, giving a wonderful symmetric look to the top, the front with one narrow drawer, shaped to the underside flanked by a pair of shorter drawers, all in matching flame mahogany similar to the top. Each of the drawers has cast brass swan neck handles with pierced flower-head back-plates, the top of each drawer is stamped ’Whytock &Reid of Edinburgh’. Beneath the bottom drawers is a shaped frieze which continues around the side, the desk is polished on all sides making it freestanding. Resting on four classic Whytock & Reid lapped legs finishing on the classic ‘Whytock & Reid’, Sir Robert Lorimer’ shaped foot with concealed castors beneath.
