Object Description
A rare early 20th century electromagnetic balance mantel timepiece, serial number 8748 by the Eureka Clock Company Limited.
The mahogany case has a shallow moulded break-arch pediment. The front door is fitted with bevelled glass, the rear with a solid arch door.
The electromagnetic movement has a large bimetallic balance with timing weights around its circumference. To the centre of the balance is a ball bearing pivot over a regulation adjustment scale which is inscribed No. 8748, PATENT, No. 14614, 1906 MADE IN ENGLAND.
The 4¼ inch convex enamel dial has Arabic numerals and steel moon hands. It is signed EUREKA CLOCK Co. LTD., LONDON to the centre. The dial sits within a cast brass bezel.
The battery compartment is hidden high behind the dial, and contains a regulated battery perched on the shelf. This contains 4 x standard ‘C’ batteries.
