A Very Good Quality And Extremely Unusual Late 18th Century Mahogany Childs Size Side Table Having Superbly Figured Top Over One Frieze Drawer Raised On Elegant Square Tapering Legs
Not to be confused with miniature, sample, or even dolls house furniture, Childs size furniture is entirely different category of its own.
Of a larger scale than the aforementioned, childrens furniture was generally made for functionality and for the children of extremely wealthy families to actually use on a day to day basis.
Sometimes these pieces would have been individually commissioned, specific pieces, but other times they would have been made supplementary to and supplied alongside, larger full scale pieces of antique furniture from the cabinet makers workshops as an additional item of furniture in part of a suite or collection.
This particular little side table is constructed from beautifully figured mahogany and it retains a very good untouched colour and patina. It is also absolutely perfect in terms of proportion and dimension for use in modern day living with a relatively plain design resulting in a really rather elegant look for a coffee table, bedside table, or even printer table in an office or similar.
Over the years we have found, stocked and sold many childs chairs and as beautiful as they often are, they are of course relatively common. However other items of childs furniture are much rarer to find and we think this is an absolutely fabulous, functional example of such.
