Object Description
A rare opportunity to buy this oak barrel, converted to a mechanical timepiece clock at about the turn of the 1900s, presumably made as a bespoke piece for a pub or similar.
It is fitted with an 8-day chain fusee timepiece movement with platform escapement. The regulation lever is attached to the rear of the dial.
The 12-inch dial consists of brass Roman numerals in relief against the top of the barrel. It bears a plaque for G. ECCLES & SON, LIVERPOOL.
Original matching bold brass hands.
George Eccles & Son appears in the 1900 Gores Directory of Liverpool and Birkenhead trade directory in the Watch Manufacturers section at 29 Ranelagh Street, Liverpool.
To be overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.
