Object Description
This elegant Japanese vase typifies the Meiji period of the late 19th century, in which European influences are combined with the traditional Japanese natural imagery. Of ovoid form, with a narrow neck and outward flaring rim, the cloissoné enamel work of the vase uses a dark blue ground with wisteria blossoms in white and purple cascading from the top with birds throughout. The lower section is decorated with blossoming tiger lily and peonies in pink and white.
