Object Description

A Charming Mid 19th Century Simulated Birdseye
Maple Miniature Chest Of Three Long Drawers
With Original Turned Wooden Knobs Raised
On Original Plinth

(There is often debate as to the original purpose regarding
many items of miniature furniture, with some people believing
them to be “apprentice pieces”, which was when an aspiring
craftsmen who was seeking work at an established cabinet making
workshop would create something to showcase his talents, but
many others believing that they were made as “salesman’s sample
pieces” which was when scale models of a workshops output
were made in advance of a road trip, during which the salesman
use these models to present to prospective clients and take orders
based on. This sweet little miniature chest of drawers was probably
made as a sample piece originally due to the level of detail in
its decoration, which suggests it was probably to be used as a
sales prop. It also retains its original wooden handles and the
simulated decoration, which is an excellent feature, is in
particularly good condition)
