Object Description
A Mid 19th century (circa 1850) mahogany breakfront bookcase with Gothic influence.
This bookcase consists of a superbly figured amboyna top with moulded frieze below, the unusual amboyna top making this bookcase unique.
This leads down to an open arched central section with two adjustable shelves with a pilaster to either side of Gothic influence with applied moulding.
The two doors each consist of a finely figured recessed mahogany panel with an arched moulding and brass knob handles with a pilaster to either side of Gothic influence with applied moulding, each of the doors opening to reveal three adjustable shelves which can be configured however you wish.
The bookcase is supported on a breakfront plinth, each of the sides consisting of plum pudding mahogany veneers.
The bookcase provides a superb choice of timbers with the fine quality mahogany, plum pudding magohany and amboyna.
This bookcase is in very good condition for age, is of stable construction an can go straight into a home – it is a very versatile piece of furniture as it can be used as a bookcase, display cabinet, side cabinet or drinks cabinet!
