Object Description
A Very Good Quality William IV Period Console Table
Having Replacement Mahogany Rectangular Top Over
Superbly Carved Goncalo Alves Wood Base Raised
On Elegant Cabriole Legs
(This table is constructed from Goncalo Alves which is
a part of the rosewood family. It is generally a bit lighter
than rosewood and slightly more decorative. The carved
decoration has great depth and is exceptionally crisp and
cabriole legs are superbly executed. The table would almost
certainly have originally housed a marble top of some kind,
but it now has a very attractive mahogany top which has
clearly been in situ for around 100 years or so and suits the
piece well. The table fixes to the wall using the two attached
screw plates and is a both practical and elegant solution to
even the tightest of available spaces.)
