Object Description

A mid 19th century (circa 1860) exhibition quality inlaid sycamore centre table of elliptical form in the manner of Jackson & Graham (1836-1885).

This superb table consists of an elliptical shaped top with finely executed marquetry flower and foliage central design of superb quality surrounded by various borders and inlays of exotic woods including Kingwood and rosewood banding, cross grain banding and stringing with scallop shell inlaid decoration with ormolu moulding to the edge.

The table is supported on a turned column with decorative octagonal collar below also embellished with ormolu decoration leading down to four scrolling legs with floral ormolu mounts and paterae with castors below.

Jackson & Graham were a furniture company established in 1836 by Thomas Jackson & Peter Graham in Oxford Street, London known for creating high quality furniture and producing pieces with fine marquetry work using rare woods and good quality mounts.

Many items were exhibited in the International exhibitions of the time and their clients included Queen Victoria and Napoleon III, the company being taken over by Collinson & Lock in 1885.

This super quality centre table is in very good original condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home or collection.
