Object Description
Mid-Century Modern Gabbeh Rug, c. 1940s
2.80 x 1.40 m
Gabbeh, a nomadic region in southern Persia, has been known for many generations for its high-quality, expressive tribal rugs. Early pieces were made for domestic use rather than commercial value in the marketplace. Gabbeh rugs have a cultural authenticity rendering them highly desirable to collectors.
This stylish c. 1940 Gabbeh rug has artistic influences of Mid-20th Century design. The simple monochrome drawing and use of natural, un-dyed wool in grey, caramel, ivory and cognac, is exquisite and unique in comparison to other examples of its type.
In excellent condition hand-woven with lustrous wool.
A sophisticated example with earthy colours to blend in a variety of interior styles.
