Mini Scottish Sampler, stitched in 1821, by Margaret Gibson aged 10. The sampler is worked in a brown cotton-like thread on a linen ground, mainly in cross stitch. Simple line border. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-10. Signed and dated, ‘Margaret Gibson Aged ten Years May 5th Montrose. Eighteen Hundred twenty one’. Placename Montrose is a town in Scotland. Framed in an old, possibly original, wood veneer frame with rippled, old glass. Mounting: The sampler is loose mounted onto card. Frame backed with paper and sealed with tape.. Dimensions exclude the frame and slip.
