Object Description

Minimalist Gabbeh Rug, c. 1930s
2.50 x 1.26 m

Gabbeh rugs have been woven for centuries by the nomadic peoples of Persia’s Zagros Mountains, and are widely appreciated as highly desireable tribal weavings thanks to their simple, graphic designs and top-quality wool.

This striking example, dating to the 1930s, combines the minimalist design one would expect of a Moroccan rug with the high-quality weaving of a Persian piece – it employs an understated palette, lent to it by the natural colour variation of the un-dyed wool, in earthy tones of ivory, caramel, grey, and muted brown.

Retained in excellent condition for everyday use.

A refined tribal piece, to add warmth and charm to any setting.
