Object Description

Minton Majolica jardinière which features illustrated flora and fauna, including: a partridge, corn & barley, swallows, a bee, a bullfinch on a blossoming branch and flowers. Artist and designer, William Stephen Coleman, was paid £200 by Minton for the designs on the ‘Naturalist’ service, which this jardiniere features. Colouration: white, turquoise, pink, are predominant. The piece bears maker’s marks for the Minton pottery. Bears a pattern number, ‘1445’. English diamond registration mark for the date 18/03/1870. Marks include a factory specific date cipher for the year 1872.

Object Condition

Generally Good. Some wear and slight staining to interior from use. KILN EFFECTS: glaze pops to some of the illustrations and to the base rim. RESTORATION. Three filled chips to the lower base rim. Three stabilised and retouched hairlines to the rim.
