Object Description

The beautifully un-touched painted pine carcass and sycamore plank topped dresser base, at over six feet wide, displaying the original painted finish, now distressed commensurate with age, having a thick sycamore top with a shaped gallery back, over two banks of three drawers, each with the original knob handles, to a central fielded paneled cupboard door enclosing a shelf, , the whole standing on a moulded plinth base and surviving largely in original condition from the very early Victorian period.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

An unspoiled treasure.

Object Condition

The base shows some attractive wear and tear with scuffing and losses commensurate with its age, with the carcass structurally sound, but with some losses that have not been restored. The thick sycamore top has been well used with a super dry texture and there is a section of loss to the front left section and remains of metal from a vice grip, as photographed, with three holes having been drilled into it as well at some stage – the piece was obviously used in a workshop setting for a period. The plinth base has some losses as pictured. The knobs are largely original. To the interior there is a beautiful early shade of duck egg blue and ochre paints.
