Object Description
A Napoleon III Gilt-Bronze & Bleu Turquin Marble Clock Garniture
France, circa 1870
Dial signed: ‘H. Kreitz’
An impressive Second Empire three-piece garniture in finely chased gilt-bronze and Bleu Turquin (Dove Grey) marble, comprising a mantel clock and a pair of seven-light candelabra, all in the Louis XVI neoclassical revival style.
The clock is formed as a fluted classical vase on a pedestal base, centred by a ribbon-tied enamel dial with Roman numerals. The movement, housed within the base, features a twin-barrel strike on bell. The matching candelabra have acanthus-wrapped branches issuing from vase-shaped stems with laurel swag handles, creating a bold, architectural ensemble.
