Napoleon III period dressing table mounted with silvered bronze, attributed to Diehl
French, c. 1870
Height 78cm, width 50cm, depth 38cm
This magnificent dressing table is crafted from dark wood mounted with silvered bronze. The table is raised on four cabriole legs, each leg terminating in a silvered bronze foot and set to the shoulder with a silvered bronze foliate mount. The apron of the table contains a large drawer, while the top of the table is hinged, opening to reveal a mirror and an addition compartment. The table is set throughout with finely formed silvered bronze mounts. Based on the style of the piece and the choice of materials, it can be attributed to Charles-Guillaume Diehl, a leading producer during the reign of Napoleon III.
