Eduardo Forlenza (Italian, 1861-1934) was a genre and portrait painter, known for his depictions of beautiful Italian peasant women. In this sensual oil on canvas, a young smiling woman is depicted with dark coiffured hair against a soft pale background, holding a bunch of pink roses to her face. She is shown from the bust up with her back to the viewer, glancing over her nude shoulder which is draped with white fabric.
The canvas is signed ‘E. Forlenza’ to the lower right corner. It is held in an ornate openwork giltwood frame.
