Object Description

Studio of Joseph Farington RA (1747 – 1821). Pen and watercolour with traces of etched outline.
Farington’s primary drawing of this subject was executed in 1789 and is held in the collection of the Museum of London. A print of it was published in 1790 by W. Byrn of Titchfield Street, engraved by J.C. Stadler. It was very successful and many variations followed. The present work in watercolour is a one of a number probably done by assistants working over faintly etched outlines of the composition .
