Dating to around the turn of the 20th Century
the styling and design of this attractive side, or
serving table is typical of the items which were
being produced in China for the western market
from early in the 19th century and beyond. These
items are commonly referred to as made for the
Chinese Export market.

That said it is much more common to come across
nests of tables, or coffee tables, or pot stands and
quite unusual to find something like this table.

It is very well figured throughout and retains a
good, rich, warm colour and patina. The brass
handles are original and despite having keyholes
cut into the drawer fronts there is no sign that
it has ever actually had any working locks, so it
appears that the keyholes are just for decorative
effect.

In the modern home this table could serve a wide
variety of purposes in a whole host of different rooms
and the hard wearing nature of the wood it’s constructed
from also makes it a good candidate for high traffic, or
high use areas.
