Object Description
A Very Attractive Late 19th Century, Oriental Hardwood, Chinese Export, Square Coffee Table, Or Pot Stand, Having Panelled Wooden Top Over Elegant Frieze With Pierced & Carved Decoration, Raised On Square Legs And Shaped Feet.
Many items were produced in China for the western market from early in the 19th century and beyond. These items are commonly referred to now as having been made for the Chinese Export market and the most prolifically found of these items tend to be coffee tables, opium tables, nests of tables and to a slightly lesser extent altar type side tables.
One of the reasons these types of items prove so popular in the modern world is because it is of course very difficult to find genuine european antique 18th and 19th century items of furniture which would suit as a modern day coffee table, as they simply didn’t make, or use low tables in europe during antique times.
This coffee table, which may well have started life designed as a pot stand, is particularly attractive and a great size for use all around the home. The oriental hardwood which it is constructed from is also extremely durable and hard wearing meaning it is not a problem to use this table for drinks, plates etc.
As with all items we offer for sale it has been inspected by our highly skilled, specialist, traditional antique furniture restorers before being made available for sale, to ensure that it is in absolutely tip top condition.
