Ormolu mounted Celadon Porcelain Pâte-sur-pâte vase-form lamp
French, Late 19th Century
Height 54cm, width 21cm, depth 17cm
Consisting of gilt bronze mounts atop pâte-sur-pâte celadon porcelain, this beautiful lamp base, with a fitting cream shade, is a fantastic decorative piece, and very fine antique lighting instalment, crafted in late nineteenth century France in fine Neoclassical style. The pâte-sur-pâte decoration on the front shows a Classical maiden or deity playing the lyre, possibly Artemis, while the reverse shows a stag grazing on a small bush in an ethereal wilderness. Crafted with exceptional skill and artistry, this piece exemplifies a host of decorative techniques to create a delightful antique lamp.
