Object Description
Very fine pair of antique armchairs, desk chairs, library or possibly dining chairs in the Hepplewhite style in the manner of Ince and Mayhew.
This pair of chairs are one of the most pleasing designs we have seen for a long time. The arms are especially well drawn with a wonderfully organic shape, a dip for the elbow and a concave front which allows them to be pushed close up to a library table or desk.
The front legs and stretchers all have finely carved fluted decoration, there is stringing to the front panel and the back rest is perfectly proportioned with a twelve spoke wheel inside the six spoke outer. The stringing which follows around the back and the arms is very fine indeed. The more these chairs are examined the more the design and proportions stand out as something very special indeed.
