Object Description

Pair of Antique 17th Century Floral Still Life Paintings, Attributed to Vincenzino
Italian, second half 17th Century
Dimensions: Frame height 111cm, width 170cm, depth 7cm; Canvas height 94cm, width 151.5cm

This beautiful pair of Italian still life paintings are attributed to the important Milanese artist Giuseppe Vincenzino, who was active in Milan and Lombardy during the second half of the 17th Century.

They both depict dramatic still life scenes of floral bouquets in dimly lit pastoral settings, with dark evening clouds visible in the background. One of the paintings depicts three floral studies: a tall bouquet of white, pink, blue and red flowers; a smaller gold dish of white flowers; and an upturned pale dish with red, pink and yellow flowers spilling out. The other painting depicts a large central display of rich red, yellow and pink flowers in an upturned basket, surrounded by other white floral bouquets in taller vessels.

One painting is signed on the reverse ‘Vincenze del Fiore’, which is possibly a variation of Giuseppe Vincenzino’s signature ‘Vincenzino de’ Fiore’. The reverse of one of the paintings also features the number ‘2523’ in red, while the other includes a Cyrillic stamp. They are both held in fine giltwood frames.
