Object Description
The stands in this matching pair are made from ‘Hongmu’ wood (Chinese hardwood). Each stand rests upon four stylised and flared dragon feet, which extend into four ornately carved cabriole legs. The legs are connected by upper and lower stretchers, the latter of which is linked by a central form carved with stylised foliate motifs. At the top of the legs of each stand is a richly carved apron, which conforms in style to the pierced octagonal wooden frieze above. This frieze supports an octagonal top, which is inset with a piece of veined pink marble.
