Object Description

A lovely George III antique silver pair of wick trimmers (snuffers) and tray. The tray is of a very attractive octagonal form and finely engraved with Greek key and Palmette motifs.
The wick trimmers are made by Wilkes Booth and the matching tray by John Emes, both are engraved with the same family crest of a bugle.
Both tray and trimmers are in excellent condition.
Wilkes Booth was a specialist wick trimmer maker and made virtually nothing else; John Emes would have ordered them to sit on the tray.
These were made in the year of the Battle of Trafalgar and on another note of historical interest Wilkes Booths brother’s grandson( John Wilkes Booth) shot Abraham Lincoln dead at Fords Theatre in Washington D.C in April 1865.
Dimensions, tray length 26.25 cm , width 9.5 cm width; wick trimmers length 16 cm.
Weight, 8.3 troy oz pair.
