Object Description

A Pair of Carved Limewood Shadow Boxes

Finely carved in high relief, and depicting two famous scenes of an eagle attacking a man, and a poacher being shot, housed within rectangular oak frames. Bearing the paper label of the framer, and the original Swiss retailer “Franz Unterberger, Innsbruck.”

The scene with the eagle based on the popular painting and lithograph produced by A. Gerasch in 1891 entitled “An Eagle’s Nest in the Stilluper Valley, Tyrol,” which can be seen in the Tiroler Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum of Innsbruck.
