Object Description
Pair of Continental gesso and wood pilaster columns
Continental, 20th Century
Height 245cm, width 55cm, depth 30cm
This elegant pair of pilasters is crafted from gesso and wood in the Ionic style. Each pilaster—a square profile column that is not weight bearing—features a grey mock-marble shaft topped with a gilt Ionic capital, above of which is a protruding dark grey entablature. The gesso is finely painted in imitation of pietra serena, a marble commonly used in Italy during the Renaissance.
