Object Description

A pair of English antique terracotta capitals by renowned terracotta English manufacturer JM Blashfield.

Dating to circa 1860, this pair of decorative composite order capitals are a fragment from architectural history, preserved through time for more than 160 years.

They are in composite style detailed eye catching stylised fish and characterful time worn shells in a buff terracotta with a well weathered surface finish.

In a Greek or Roman style look, these decorative architectural capitals make an impressive interior piece.

J M Blashfield

John Marriott Blashfield manufactured terracotta architectural and garden items between 1840 – 1875, which were sold throughout England and internationally. His works are noted for their fine detailing and pale terracotta colour.

This renowned maker started production at Millwall, London and then in 1858 he moved to Stamford in Lincolnshire.

Good structural condition. Various losses. One has had a repair through the centre.

FROM THE M50 / ROSS-ON-WYE

At the end of the M50, take the A40 towards Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth. Take the A49 Hereford Road (third roundabout after leaving the M50). Ignore the first two signposts for Wormelow, stay on the A49 for approximately nine miles and take the next left turn after passing the Pilgrim Hotel, signed A466 Wormelow. Follow the road for approximately 400 meters. We are located halfway down the hill on the right-hand side. The site is called: Grove Farm / The Grove.

FROM A49 HEREFORD

Follow the A49 south from Hereford for approximately five miles. After the uphill section at the Callow, there is a layby on your right followed by one on your left. Take the next right turn onto the A466 signed Wormelow / Monmouth. Follow the road for approximately 400 meters. We are located halfway down the hill on the right-hand side. The site is called: Grove Farm / The Grove.
