Sir Richard Edgcumbe built the house between 1547 and 1553.It wad gutted by German bombs in 1941 but later restored and sold to Cornwall County Council and Plymouth Council in 1971,It has been open to the public as a stately home since 1988.The Country Park on the Rame Peninsula is the earliest landscaped gardens in Cornwall,very popular with walkers from the Cremyll Ferry,still operating, who can walk through the property to the villages of Kingsand and Cawsand.
