Object Description

A stunning and decorative pair of French Directoire period ebonised and brass mounted marble topped commodes.

French, Circa 1800

A fine quality closely matched pair of late 18th Century / early 19th Century ebonised Directoire commodes with ‘Gris St Anne’ shaped marble top.
The shaped marble tops over are three graduated drawers with brass moulded edges and square cut handles having lovely fleur-de-lis locks.
The front drawers being flanked by a pair of brass bound topped and fluted columns standing on turned toupie feet with brass toe caps. The sides being panelled and banding with a brass mould.

This pair of ebonised Directoire commodes are in excellent condition having been fully restored using traditional methods.

These period commodes with the ebonising and brass detail contrast so well and will work in both contemporary and traditional settings.

*Gris St.Anne Marble is a dark grey marble with white and light grey markings. It is quarried mainly in Belgium at Gougnies near Charleroi and at Biesme, Namur.
