Object Description
Pair of French Chinoiserie style faience, glass, and gilt bronze lamps
French, late 19th Century
Height 75cm, diameter 18cm
Each lamp in this pair is wrought from exquisite faience (attributed to Longwy), gilt bronze, and fine crystal glass (by Cristallerie de Pantin, one of the glass tubes featuring Pantin’s sticker). The faience is in the Chinoiserie style so in vogue in France in the latter 19th Century. The body of each lamp is profusely decorated with floral motifs in faience, and is raised by a fine gilt bronze base. The faience body of each is surmounted by gilt bronze and gilt metal lamp apparatus, which in turn is mounted with a cylindrical glass tube and a spherical lampshade. The lamps are wonderfully formed, their curvilinear bodies complementing the flowing Chinoiserie floral motifs of the faience.
