Pair of French gilt bronze mounted porcelain vases
French, late 19th Century
Height 28cm, width 14cm, depth 10cm
This wonderful pair of little vases is crafted from porcelain and gilt bronze in the distinctive Rococo style. Each vase features a blue porcelain body, the front of which contains a delicately painted Rococo style scene framed by a tooled and jewelled gilt cartouche, while the reverse of each features a similar cartouche framing a gilt foliate design. Each vase is topped by a domed lid, which is in turn surmounted by a gilt bronze finial.
The vase are supported by shaped gilt bronze bases. Each vase meets its base with a gilt bronze socle; this socle supports the springing of twin handles, each handle mounted with acanthus leaf detailing and topped with a finial.
