Object Description
Pair of French Neoclassical Style Malachite and Gilt Bronze Side Tables
French, 20th Century
Dimensions: Height 85cm, diameter 50cm
These striking octagonal guéridons are crafted from malachite, ormolu, and patinated bronze. Designed in the Neoclassical Empire style, each table in this pair features motifs drawn from Egyptian culture.
Both guéridons feature octagonal malachite tops with pierced ormolu galleries. The tables are supported by patinated bronze legs, the bottom of which form paw feet, while the tops are shaped like winged sphinxes. They are connected with a pierced ormolu stretcher in the centre, and feature further ormolu horn-shapes holding up the sphinx figures.
