Object Description
Pair of French Neoclassical style red tôle and gilt bronze vases
French, late 19th Century
Height 53cm, width 24cm, depth 17cm
Each vase in this pair, crafted from gilt bronze mounted red tôle, is baluster shaped in a manner characteristic of the grand and elegant Empire style. Supported by a square gilt bronze base with inward curved corners, each vase stands on a gilt bronze stem. The red vases are mounted with unusual twin dragon-neck handles, the dragon heads holding beautifully rendered gilt bronze foliate garlands that drape across the front of the vases’ bodies. Each vase is surmounted with a ormolu lid with a fruit finial.
