Object Description
Pair of French ormolu and lapis lazuli stands
French, 20th Century
Height 66cm, width 43cm, depth 43cm
This elegant pair of stands was crafted in France during the 20th century, reflecting the sophisticated Neoclassical style that became fashionable in the 19th century. Drawing inspiration from the art and architecture of ancient Greece and Rome, Neoclassicism is characterized by balanced proportions, clean lines, and refined simplicity. The style is celebrated for its harmony, clarity, and idealised forms, often embodying timeless beauty and classical virtue.
Each stand is topped with a square lapis lazuli surface, encircled by a finely detailed ormolu frieze. The design is supported by four scrolling feet, adorned with intricate motifs and joined by a circular stretcher, while a stepped, shaped base rests on turned feet, providing both stability and visual elegance.
Practical as well as decorative, these stands can function as individual side tables or as platforms to showcase vases and other ornaments, making them a striking addition to any interior.
