Object Description
A very fine and unusual pair of antique silver cast candlesticks of panelled octagonal form.
They are very well hallmarked underneath and correctly part marked on the nozzles.
Underneath the nozzles (and only visible when the nozzles are detached) are the numbers 19 and 20. The latter indicates they were from a very large set, which leads to the conclusion that they were originally made for a livery company or one of the superior gentlemen’s clubs of the 18th century.
In over 40 years in business we have never seen this model before, so we suspect it was an exclusive order from one of the most important and finest silversmiths of the period (especially as most candlesticks of this period are weighted).
Dimensions: height 29.75 cm, width (of base) 13.75 cm; weight 37 troy oz.
