Object Description

An Extremely Well Matched Pair of 18th Century Mahogany Bedside Night Tables, Or Tray Top Commodes, Having Pierced Decoration To Galleried Tops Over Well Figured Pairs Of Cupboard Doors And Converted Pull Out Drawers, Raised On Square Chamfered Legs.

These are a good example of a typical Georgian bedside night table. At some point in their history they have been matched together into a pair, which is extremely common due to a relentless demand over many years for matching tables either side of a bed combined with how difficult pairs are to find and therefore the extremely high price of any true pairs which can be found on the market at any given time.

The differences are extremely minor, with just some ever so slightly different mouldings in places, plus a small difference in depth and there is every chance they were made in the same workshop originally. It is extremely difficult to pick out any differences when they are stood literally side by side next to each other, let alone once they are either side of a bed.

This particular design continues to prove an extremely popular option for bedside tables due to the relative sturdiness, especially when compared to various other bedside options, the storage they are able to offer and the tray type tops which make it much less likely items perched on the top will get knocked over.

As with all items which we offer for sale these bedside tables have been inspected in our workshops by our highly skilled, trained traditional antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish before being offered for sale, ensuring that they are ready to be placed immediately into the home.
