Object Description

A pair of Georgian style Mahogany lidded urns, from Dunkirk Manor.

The wooden lidded finials on circular turned bases are complimented by acorn shaped tops.

In classical Georgian styling, this striking pair are perfectly balanced and elegant.

They will look particularly striking when elevated on plinths or either side of a mantelpiece in an interior, instilling a space with grandeur and opulence.

Provenance

Reclaimed from Dunkirk Manor, a Grade II Listed Building in the Cotswolds.

The manor was originally home to local merchant and business owner John Cooper, who made his fortune supplying wool and uniforms for the French Wars.

He later renovated the manor, adding a Georgian facade and expanding the property, before it was later renamed Dunkirk Mills in honour of Cooper’s new home.

It was later bought by Michael Hicks Beach, 2nd Earl St Aldwyn, in 1967 from Sir George Godfrey-Faussett.

Sir George was the son of Sir Bryan Godfrey-Faussett GCVO CMG (1863-1945), who was equerry to not one, but three British Kings: Edward VII, George V and George VI.

Now the manor is a private family household and the home of an extensive decorative collection.
