Object Description
Pair of large Canton style famille rose Chinese porcelain vases
Qing Dynasty, Late 19th Century
Height 65cm, diameter 25cm
Crafted from porcelain and executed in the so called ‘famille rose’ style, these large Canton vases were made in China in the period of the Qing dynasty. Famille rose refers to the dominant colour of the overglaze used in the enamel on the porcelain vases, which is here pink, although the images, rich and dense depictions of courtly life, are painted in a multitude of vibrant shades and tones, and the borders to the main panels are largely green.
The shape is simple, and less effusively decorated than other examples; the refined manner of their execution allows the materials and the images to sing out. As such, this pair of vases is a wonderful example of Qing dynasty artistic production, and fine antique pieces for the interested collector.
