Object Description
Pair of large Chinese hardstone, jade and cloisonné enamel flower models
Chinese, 20th Century
Height 39cm, width 25cm, depth 25cm
Crafted in 20th century China, this pair of large flower models showcase the centuries-old technique of cloisonné enamelling as well as the celebrated tradition of hardstone carving.
The models are of an identical design, each one filled with a plethora of large, hanging jade leaves as well as delicate flowers. The carving of the models is outstanding, making the models appear as if real. Each flower model includes around three delicate red beads acting as the stigma, the bright colouration standing out against the paler jade. The leaves and flowers extend from the planter on wire branches, some covered with thread.
The planters are decorated with cloisonné enamel. Among the vibrant blue background shade, there is a selection of variously coloured flowers and leaves. A sweet bird can also be spotted within the composition.
The models and planters are supported by an elegant carved wooden base, its pared-down design complementing the rich floral compositions.
The large flower models would be a very eye-catching addition to one’s interior setting.
