Object Description

A large superbly fine pair of late 19th century Japanese Meiji bronze elephant incense burners or koro with pagoda temple covers.

This wonderful pair of incense burners consist of a pair of fine quality bronze and gilt bronze elephants with trunks aloft, the elephants carrying large pagoda temples on their backs, the two storey temples with intricate engraved decoration, windows, balconies and bronze and gilt bronze droplets.

The elephants both adorned with jewels and caparisoned with rich decorative saddlecloths consisting of superbly detailed relief dragon decoration with Greek key pattern design and droplets.

This superb pair of elephants are in very good condition for age with minimal losses, are of stable construction and can go straight into a home or collection.
